Using LOOT the other day was the first time I've used a mod loader for ANY Bethesda game in years. I know for sure it's not my mod loader (your chief suspect), as I don't use them. Data/Meshes/Architecture/Bravil/?UOMPSundercliffWall02.NIF. I didn't compare hashes for literally every file, but LOOT isn't making any changes to the oblivion*.* files, the knights*.* files, or. I also did a bunch of checksums on various files that seemed relevant, using steamdb's hashes and hashes I generated from the files supplied here, and they all match.

So whatever 'magic' LOOT does, it must happen solely to the Oblivion install directory. The real problem lies somewhere else.ĮDIT: After a bunch more 'behind the scenes magic' on my part, I was able to conclude LOOT doesn't make any changes to the system or user directories, because the bug doesn't re-emerge when I create a whole new environment. As long as we keep playing the blame game, we'll never find and fix the real problem. So let's all please stop pretending the problem is the load order, user error, or something similar. So whatever the problem is, it's been around for at least that long, and it's happening ONLY with the Knights patch. A mere 21 days later, on 19 January 2013, the first user (Tigernator) reported crashes with the Knights patch. This has been a problem that goes back to the 18th version (v1.1.3), released 29 December 2012. So I don't know what changes LOOT makes, but it's not being made ONLY to Plugins.txt.Īlso, the problem isn't with the most recent version of the Knights patch. I also grep'd the Oblivion install directory and got nothing too. So I grep'd the entire system, including registries, and found nothing. So clearly LOOT must have made a change somewhere else and I thought maybe there's a file somewhere on the system that sets flags, or order overwrites, or something similar. I changed it only for LOOT and changed it back when LOOT was done. I had to do some behind the scenes magic of my own to make LOOT work properly.

If anyone would like to view this log for themself, it is here: I tried to find the source of that 'behinds the scenes magic' to see exactly what fix it applies, but nothing in the log looked obvious to me. LOOT and other mod list organisers must be applying some kind of behind the scenes magic to fix this problem.īefore I let LOOT reorder my Plugins.txt, I made sure to run it in debug mode, so it would make a log of everything it does. So whatever is happening, the problem isn't with the mod order. I can change the Plugins.txt file in whatever way I want, within reason, and the game will run just fine. I made a backup of the old Plugins.txt, ran LOOT, then applied the backup. It's worth noting that this last mod order is EXACTLY the order it was BEFORE I used LOOT. Then I ran it again, and again it didn't crash.

I put together my GOG installation on my new PC in August 2021. Both installations are heavily modded (but little in the way of graphics mods, other than optimization for many meshes and textures on the old installation). My retail disk (the SI disk includes the latest official patch) version on my old Win XP box still works fine with the UODC patch as well.
